Following added by Andrew Dennison in 2017:
I am related to the Groom in the photo, William Thomas Dennison (known as Bill) was my great-uncle, although I never met him. Having consulted with my father we think we can add a few more names to the photo as they are mostly Dennison family members.
The crossed-legged lad on the left of the front row is Ronald George Dennison. He was the younger brother of Bill (and my grandfather). He would be aged 12 in the photo.
Seated second from the left is Harriett Dennison, the mother of the groom, and to the right of her is Elsie Mary Dennison, younger sister of Bill. I presume Elsie and Bertha Gothard (known as “Buff”) seated to the other side of the bride shared some role in the wedding as they appear to be in roughly matching, if presumably handmade, outfits. Bill’s father William Charles Dennison was still alive at the time of the wedding but doesn’t seem to appear on the photo. Harriett’s position on the left mirrors the mother of the bride on the right, although she is listed by what I believe is her maiden name of Bidwell rather than her married Gothard name?
In the back row the lady in the hat second from the left is Ivy Maud Dennison, Bill’s youngest sister.
And in the middle row we have a disagreement with the stated listing as we believe that the blurred lady second from the left is Ethel Dennison, Bill’s older sister. There is a certain, slightly downcast look which was characteristic of Ethel. As I say, this does conflict with the stated name but could Edie Gothard therefore be the unnamed girl back right?
The Dennison family hailed from Virginia Water so it must have been quite a trip for the wedding. How Bill and Olive therefore came to meet I cannot say but Bill had served throughout the first world war and perhaps at some point whilst moving about for training or even medical care their paths may have crossed. Bill and Olive certainly lived in Virginia Water after the wedding.
You probably didn’t need to know quite that much to be honest but it gives a little more background and I thought I’d share what I have.
Many thanks for having this on the website – it was lovely to come across an old family photo that we previously had no idea about.
